Subject: Mitsubishi Eclipse locked up
Question: Hi, I was recently driving my 96 Eclipse, GST Turbo Manual when the engine cut out and it wont start again. I had just left my house, and I had noticed in the day or two before that it was running a little hard. It cut out, and the engine sounds like it wants to start but it wont roll over. Its nothing as easy as the battery, but Im not sure where to look from here. Any advice would be great!
Answer: Teresa,
There are many things that can cause your car to suddenly die. Here are most common ones:
-Weak fuel pump. Have your fuel pressure regulator checked to be sure you're getting adequate pressure.
-Clogged fuel filter. This is pretty common. Your fuel filter should be changed every 1-2 years.
-Weak alternator. Usually, alternators don't just sudden quit working. They display various warning signs similar to the ones you described. Have it load tested at a local garage or auto parts store.
Good luck!
