| Question: |
I have a 1994 mitsubishi eclipse 4 cylinder EFI., my problem is it
keeps dying when i come to a full stop and its shifting gears,or when
i first start then put it in drive it dies, but if i step on the gas it
wont, i adjusted the idle , and that didnt help. Its an automatic transmission.
someone told me to get the transmission rebuilt, others told me it can
be the servo down switch or torque converter, id like to know your opinion
first before I do anything. |
| Answer: | Robert, This could be caused by a number of things. I have seen this problem with a car that had a clogged catalytic converter. Also, a malfunctioning fuel pump or other faulty fuel component can cause this. Ignition and timing issues can also cause stalling problems like the one you're experiencing. It would be a good idea to have your car's computers inspected. Read this article for further information: http://www.90gsx.com/eclipse/cap/caps.htm If your ECU or TCU is malfunctioning, you can get these problems. But
I wouldn't rule out an overall transmission problem. I would have the
other items inspected first before doing work on the transmission. Transmission
work should be handled by a transmission shop or the dealership. The average
local mechanic isn't as well equipped for working on transmissions. |
