Dear Anthony,
I own a Mitsubishi Eclipse 95, 2.0 RS automatic. For the last year and
a half I have been having a problem that has been getting progressively
worse. On a cold engine, for the most part, my vehicle drives fine. When
driven around for a while, then the vehicle is not used for about an hour,
then driven again...the vehicle engine light comes on and stalls. This
usually happens when at a low rate of speed such as coasting, coming to
a stop sign, or at a stop. I even noticed this happens when idling in
neutral when the engine warms again. The vehicle usually stalls once or
twice and no more. When on the freeway (at high speeds) the engine light
blinks on and off and usually hestitates...but that's it. I have taken
it to 5 mechanics and their computers show that nothing is wrong. Some
have even cleaned the throttle plate and changed the cam sensor to no
avail. This is a big mystery! What is going on here?

Henry,
This sounds like it could be an emissions problem; possibly your catalytic
converter is no longer functioning properly. Flashing and intermittent check
engine light can also indicate random misfires. This can be affected if
the timing is off. This can be caused by a number of things, including a
malfuncitoning belt tensioner tensioner.
If none of your local mechanics can figure this out, you may want to
have the dealership inspect the systems on your car to see if they can
detech where the problem may be.
Good luck!
