| Question: | My Eclipse spat out antifreeze/coolant out of the radiator after filling up my car with it(finding out it was dry). I believe some got in my crank-case where my spark-plugs are. When starting my engine, it never wants to take without giving it gas. It's still a strugle getting it started. When started, my RPM's rise whenever my clutch is in. This happens for awhile. What do you think? I cleaned my sparkplug area with alcohol yet it still gives me trouble. Is my engine flooded? Thanks, Mike 1998 Eclipse GS 4 Cylinder |
| Answer: | Michael, Firstly, you want to find out why you ran out of coolant. Check for leaks. It may be possible that you blew your head gasket and coolant was slowly leaking into you engine and evaporating away. Have a compression check done to check for this. This could be contributing for all the problems you have. I don't think your engine is flooded if you have to give it gas in order for it continue running when you start it. That could be due to a clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, improperly adjusted idle, or a faulty throttle position sensor. If you have to push your clutch pedal to the floor for your RPMs to rise,
your clutch may be sticking. Your throw-out bearing may be faulty. Have
your clutch inspected. |
