| Question: | i have a 1992 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 turbo 16 valve and i went to start it the other day and it started to make a loud knocking noise that sounded like it was coming from under the valve cover by the intake manifold, then i took the valve cover off and i cant see anything wrong with it. and i took the spark plugs out and the cylindars have compression, and the spark plugs are fine. they werent wet at all. I cant figure out what is wrong with it. |
| Answer: | Steven, That engine is very touchy and must be tuned very well. Have your timing belt check. If you have 30k-45k miles on it, place it. Your owners manual may say change it every 60k miles, but I wouldn't risk it. Paying $150 for a new belt and labor is much cheaper than paying $2500 for a new engine if that belt snaps. You should also have your knock sensor checked. If that sensor has done
bad, it can cause your engine to knock severely. You should be using a
high octane gasoline in your engine; 93 octane or higher. If you haven't
been using it, send that extra $1.50 per tank to fill it up. i'd also
recommend a fuel system cleaner to clean out your injectors and remove
any water that may have been built up in your system. |
