| Question: | I posted my question
some time ago, about my 97 eclipse gst having problems. sputtering and boost
wasnt felt. well since then I have made modifications to my eclipse. now
I got a set of holley 550cc injectors, a walbro 255LPH fuelpump, new ngk plugs, msd plugwires, new oem coils, changed fuel filter, mods that i already had are the mitsu 20g, external deltagate wastegate, hks blowoff, custom made IC pipes, starion intercooler, sx fuel pressure regulator, hks throttlebody elbow, k&N cone filter, 3" downpipe, test tube, 3" all the way to the muffler, I think thats about it. well the thing is that the problem is still there. I cant feel the turbo pulling.the car will get slower when i go 100% throttle than on 50% throttle. this friday im getting an hks super afr. ohhh and my boost is set to 15psi. so I think I should be over 300HP with my mods. but even a stock eclipse turbo wins me in a race, what can be the problem if all my fuel and ignition systems are new? could it be the turbo? turbo has a small shaftplay but it doesnt smoke or sound wierd. I need help. any thoughts are apreciated. ohh and happynew year!! |
| Answer: | Armando, Indeed I do remember you. Looks like your Eclipse got some nice presents for Christmas. The super afr will definately help, and I hope it fixes your problem. Even if that doesn't fix it, with all that air and fuel you're putting in your engine now, you'll need it. Its possible you have too much shaft play, but I wouldn't be too concerned. I doubt that is your overall problem. I'm starting to run out of ideas. But I may have a couple more. If you have a manual tranny, your clutch may be slipping. If you have an automatic, your torque convertor could be the problem. Check your throttle body. Make sure your accelerator cable is secure. If your cable has too much slack, it'll never let you get to WOT. Its possible your throttle position sensor is malfunctioning. It may not be sensing when your throttle plate is fully open. If that occurs, your ECU will not send enough fuel. If you have worn o-rings on your throttle body, you may be leaking air past it when you're at full throttle. Have you upgraded your throttle body? You may wanna look around for a 1G throttle body. Its larger and will allow for greater air flow. If NONE of that helps, I may have one other idea. The 2G turbo models had a problem that Mitsubishi never made a formal recall on. Its known as the "walking" crankshaft syndrome. Basically, the crank shaft would develope lateral movement. The symptoms in most the cases seemed to be problems with putting the car into gear. The transmissions were fine. The problem is faulty crankshaft bearings. The front of the motor would make noise when the clutch is engaged/disengaged... bad thrust bearing on the crank. There are lots of articles online describing the 2G DSM "walking" crankshaft problem. There may be cases like yours. Happy New Year! |
