| Answer: | Luke, Replacing the air filter is a good start, but you should look into other tune-up items. Other things like fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, and PCV valve are regular maintenance items and should be examined and replaced if you haven't donr so in the past 3 years. I would also recommend having your battery, battery cables, and alternator checked out to be sure they are operating properly. Having your fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator tested is not a bad idea either. It is also a good idea to remove and clean out your throttle body. When the throttle body gets excessively dirty, air flow is disrupted and can cause the problems you're seeing. Fill up with a tank of premium gas along with a bottle of fuel injector cleaner as well. If you have not replaced your timing belt, balance belt, and timing belt
tensioner within the last 60,000 miles, I highly recommend you do this.
Poor timing and worn belts will cause this problem, and if not replaced
can snap and seriously damage your engine. |
