| Question: | Cannot locate the Fuse, relay , or fuseible link for the fuel pump. Car will turn over well but will not start. checked plugs and EFI has no juice to #8 connection. Just cannot locate anything in fuse boxes which indicate a fuel connection, car just quit running after running really well before the holidays. Really need to know where the relay etc is for this . Also what is an I.o.d. connection in the fuse box under the hood. |
| Answer: | Karen, The IOD or storage connection in the fuse box under the hood is the Ignition Off Draw fuse. It controls things like map lights, key ignition light, radio, etc. Basically things that can be 'ON' when the ignition is turned off. The only relay that deals specifically with the fuel pump is the MFI (multiport fuel injection) Control Relay. Its located behind the radio, near the ECU inside the car. I've never seen one of those go bad, but its always a possibility. Sometimes a clogged fuel filter will prevent the computer from engaging the fuel pump to reduce pressure on the fuel lines. If you have more than 12k miles on your current fuel filter, its a good idea tp replace it anyway. A less common, but possible cause of your problems is a ECU. On the 89-94 Eclipse models, their computers were manufactured with under-rated capacitors. Over time, those capacitors would leak and ruin the rest of the ciruit board. Since the ECU controls 'everything', very strange, and sudden problems would occur. If you pull the ECU out of the car (behind the radio) and you smell rotten seafood, you have leak capacitors. You can open the enclosure and look at the board. You can easily detect if those capacitors have leaked. Typically, this was an occurance on the 2.0L Turbo Eclipses, but I've heard of 1.8L models having it happen as well. Good luck! |
