Subject: Buying an eclipse 06
Question:

Hello. Sorry if I am kind of out of the subject here. I am an international student here in the U.S. (actually in MN) and would like to buy a 06 eclipse. I dont know many people here so I dont have no expert opinion about it. I am relying 100% on your opinion, maybe if it sounds crazy. I've seen the ad of the new eclipse 06, now I have an eclipse 95 with 74k miles and I would like another eclipse cos mine has been just great. I noticed you have had an eclipse for a while and I think you might have been curious then about eclipses (usually people check out newer models of the ones they own). What do you think about buying an eclipse 06? Another thing, Ive been asking prices and the advertising says MSRP starting from 19k. Is it possible to find that price or maybe something better? Thanks a lot for your help and again, sorry for asking here. I dont know many people here so I really appreciate your help!

Answer: Benito,
At a glance, I think the new 06 Eclipse will be a winner for Mitsubishi. Though the 06 Eclipse is unlike any previous Eclipse ever made; very different from the Eclipses we have experience with. Not only is the body style different, but the 06's have the MIVEC engines. Those are variable valve timing engines. Basically its an advanced engine design that combines fuel ecomony and extra horsepower. Mitsubishi is also offering more standard features with these Eclipse, plus a very nice 10 year/100,000 drivetrain warranty.

There are 2 models being offered, the 4-cylinder 2.4L engine GS model and the V6 3.8L engine GT model. If you're looking for good fuel economy, low initial cost, and lower overall cost of ownership, the 4-cylinder 2.4L Eclipse would be a good choice. But if you want all-out power, sportiness, and cost is not an issue, then the GT Eclipse would be the model for you.

Because this car just came out, I can't really say what price you may get for it. I doubt too many dealerships will come down too much off the MSRP on a car that just got released, but you can try your local dealerships and ask if they can make you a better deal.

You should also consider the region of the US you're living in. If you not familiar with winter time in Minnesota, then you may be surprised to wake up some morning in November and see a couple feet of snow on the ground, and that snow may last until March. So whatever car you decide to buy, seriously consider also investing in a good set of snow tires for the 4-5 months of winter you may experience. And if you do go with the new 06 Eclipse, write me back and tell me how you like it :-)
Good luck!
