| Question: | We have no spark to the plugs, and were wondering if the crc filter may have anything to do with our problem. The car is a 1993 mitsubishi ecliopse with 1.8 litre motor and automatic. |
| Answer: | Greg, I haven't heard anyone mention a CRC filter since my college days. You can check your ECU for leaking capacitors, but I don't believe your model of Eclipse had that problem. You should start by checking your spark plugs. If they look bad (lots of corrosion, deposit build-up, or oily) or smell bad (gasoline or oily smell) they should be replaced. Next check your spark plug wires. if they appear cracker, worn, or fraid, they need to be replaced. Now check your distributor. Examing the cap, rotor and points. If they looked corroded, replace. Replacing all those items are relatively easy and inexpensive. If that does not remedy your problem, your ignition coil could be faulty. Since your car is 10 years old, I'm guessing you have over 100k miles on it. If you haven't had a tune-up in more than a year, you should have one now. A typical tune-up will consist of replacing the plugs, wires, and distributor. Your compression should also be checked during your tune up. Good luck! |
