| Question: | I have an Eclipse 96 gst, it has about 100,000 miles on it. question: it is stalling in between shifting and when you stop at red light but it starts up fine after it stalls. Now the check engine light just ame on |
| Answer: | Ryan, Check the connection on your air filter can. If that comes loose, it can cause stalls and your check engine light will definately come on. While you're in there, make sure you have a clean air filter. The check engine light usually comes on due to an intake system problem. The turbo models have LOTS of vacuum hoses. If certain ones get clogged or have a leak, you all sorts of strange problems. If you haven't changed your timing belt in within the past 45k miles or so, now is a good time to do it. If your timing is off, you can stall when your engine revs down (like when you apply the clutch). Even if your belt looks fine, its better to be safe than sorry. If that belt throws off your timing or breaks, it will cost you an engine. Basically, all of the above are regular maintenance items. Since you've
rolled 100k miles, now is a good time for a full tune-up. Belts, filters
(air and fuel), spark plugs, plug wires, pcv valve, and be sure to change
your oil at least every 5000 miles / 6 months (3000 miles if you drive
it really hard). You may even be due for a new clutch. |
