Subject: Convertible Top
Question:

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder 2.0L, GS, Automatic
The convertible top in my car does not go down. When i hit the button, it clicks and all windows go down, the top does not move. If i hold the button down, i can hear a clicking noise where it sounds like it wants to go, but for some reason it doesn't budge. Could it be a relay needs to be replaced? Is the convertible motor located in the trunk?

Answer: Sandy,
The motor assemby is located almost in the trunk. I believe it's on the drivers side, located behind the rear fender, but you would probably need to access it from the trunk. The motor is much smaller than you may think. It's roughly the size of a water bottle.

There are so many components used to make your top come down, the list is too long to mention. It may be the motor, a cable link, a broken pin, or even just a rusty bolt. You need to have a mechanic check it out. A dealership mechanic may be your best bet. Now depending on how many miles you have on your car, this problem may be covered by your existing warranty. Have a dealership mechanic check it out first.
Good luck!
