Subject: cly. head
Question: i recently email you about a valve tap. My car is a talon 2.0 nt. i think i have decided to take it somewhere to get fixed but was wondering if i should get the whole cly head replaced now instead of waiting for the other valves to go.
Answer: Anthony,

If you suspect the other valves may be going bad, replacing the entire head would be a good investment. The parts are expensive enough, but if you fact in the cost of labor, that price sky-rockets. Especially if you replace four valves at a time. Replacing the entire head would save you LOTS of money in the long run.

Before you rush out looking for a good rebuilt head, you may want to get a professional to inspect your head and confirm it is a valve problem. It's possible it may just be a lifter, spring, cam, or other "small" part. It's possible the tapping noise you hear could be the sound of a noisy fuel injector resonating through your valve cover.

It could be as simple as getting a new timing belt and putting a high quality synthetic oil in your engine (Mobil 1 or AMSOIL are my recommendations). If you live in a part of the country where the temperature rarely dips below freezing, use 10W-30. The timing belt is critial to the life and well being of your engine. If that belt goes, you WILL need to replace your entire head. Even if the belt looks good, replace it if has over 50,000 miles on it.
Good luck!
