| Subject: | oil in spark plug hole |
| Question: | yeah i have a 99 eclipse gs non turbo and i went to change my sparkplugs the other day and i noticed that down in the hole for the number one spark plug there was about 2 an ahalf inches of oil covering almost the whole plug. it is the plug right in front of the oil filler cap. so i was wondering maybe what the problem might be and if it some thing i can repair on my own or if i need to have a pro look at it. Thanks |
| Answer: | Andrew, First make sure there is no oil leaking out from the oil cap. But if there isn't any signs of oil under the spark plug cover, there probably is a worse problem. It sounds like oil is leaking past a worn valve guide or piston ring, and getting into the cumbustion chamber. 2 and a half inches is a lot of oil. Have a qualified mechanic take a look at this. It may involve some serious engine work. Good luck! |
