| Subject: | AIC motor |
| Question: |
I own a 1996 Eclipse GST and my car won't idle. I was told by a dealer that the part will cost 280 dollars and another 180 to install. The part he said was bad is a AIC Motor. Can I get one cheaper, maybe in a junk yard? Is it difficult to install? Where is it located on the engine? |
| Answer: | Lew, I believe you were told you needed a new Idle Air Control motor (IAC). It is located directly underneath your throttle body. It is not very difficult to replace yourself. I'd highly recommend a service manual if you attempt to do this job yourself. Haynes and Chiltons both make very good manuals that are available for your car. The manuals will guide you on disassembly and assembly instructions. Because your engine components are aluminum, they are very easy to crack if overtighted, so be careful. $280 is a lot of money for a new part. I would recommend calling around
to auto salvage yards, and asking if they have any IACs for your car.
You can use any IAC from any turbo Eclipse or Talon engine, between the
years '95-'99. Many times, I've found good parts on www.ebaymotors.com.
Lots of people that used to own Eclipses and Talons sell their cars piece
by piece to others that need hard to find parts. |
