an non running 1.8 ltr eclipse and was happy to get it running. there is a lot of crankcase pressure out of oil fill hole. replaced pcv and didnt help. |
| Answer: | Joanna, Replacing the PCV valve is a good start. Check the hose that leads from the PCV valve to the intake. The hose may be clogged or kinked. A test you can try to make sure your PCV valve is operating correctly is to detach the hose from the pcv valve to the intake. Cap off the inlet going to the intake and put a breather filter on the end of the pcv valve; you can get a breather filter from store like Wal-Mart, AutoZone, PepBoys, etc... Drive it around for 10-15 minutes with some high revs; highway driving is best. Then shut your car off, and check the breather filter. If you notice oily residue on/in the filter, your pcv valve is working. If you don't notice your crankcase pressure going down, its possible that there is poor contact between the piston ring and cylinder wall. Hopefully the pcv valve check procedure I mention remedies the problem. Otherwise, you could be looking at a lot more engine work. Since you've been having high crankcase pressure, check your rear main seal for any oil leaks. High pressure could eventually lead to that seal leaking lots of oil Hope I was able to give you some ideas. Good luck! |
