| Subject: | Will only run for a second again |
| Question: | My 1992 Mitsubishi Eclispe
with 167,000 miles won't run for more than a second. Wait a few seconds
and it will restart but only run for a second. I've replaced the computer,
alternator, distrubutor, plugs, wires, fuel pump and both fuel filters to
no avail. I have too much invested to quit now. I have no idea what to do.
Can you PLEASE help me Its a 1.8 liters 4 cyclinder 2WD |
| Answer: | Tom, I like you persistence. You've replaced just about everything I would have suggested. I would all recommend checking your fuel rail and fuel injectors. From your descriptions, it sounds like not enough fuel is getting to the engine. It's possible the fuse and/or connector for the fuel pump has shorted out, or is not connected properly. It is possible one of your fuel lines got pinched or has something clogged in it, preventing it from delivering fuel. Most repair manuals give the procedure for checking fuel pressure. If you don't feel confident checking it yourself, have a qualified technician do it. You can also have your belts and tensioner checked. If your belts are too tight, your alternator may have a difficult time turning the engine over. That'll surely cause your engine to stall. You may also have compression lose in one or more your piston housings. If your engine doesn't have compression, it definately won't run well; if at all. Have these things checked out (if you haven't already) and maybe one
of them will lead to the correct problem area. |
