| Subject: | Fuel Pump/switch |
| Question: | My car died while I
was driving and can't seem to get it to start. My dad thinks it is the fuel
pump and I tried to listen for it when the key was in the on position but
didn't hear anything. Is there an emergency fuel cut off switch and if so,
where is it located? Thank you for any help you can give. It is a 1992 Mits Eclipse with a 1.8. stick shift. |

Virginia, If your fuel pumps dies while you're driving, your car's computer will
blow the ignition fuse. You can find that fuse in your main fuse box near
your battery. If that fuse was blown due to your fuel pump, you'll probably
need to replace the pump and/or possibly the fuel pump assembly. I had
a fuel pump die on me while I was doing highway speeds in my Eclipse.
When that ignition fuse blows, everything on the car dies. Be extremely
careful when examining your fuel pump. The slightest spark can ignite
the faintest of gasoline vapors. |
