Question: i have a 2000 eclipse and have the trans all unbolted but it wont slid out. i was wondering if it splits into two pieces
Answer:

Tom,

I've never worked on a tranny of a 3G Eclipse, but if its anything like the 1G or 2G models its takes some force to seperate it. For the early Eclipses, you're able to take a large, sturdy, flat-head screwdriver and fit it into a couple grooves that Mitsubishi prodived. Then, with much caution, pry it apart into its two pieces. If I can remember right, those tranny housings are made of aluminum, and can easily be damaged if you're not careful.

Keep in mind, I've only worked on manual transmissions, not automatic. If yours is an automatic, you may want to search the internet for additional info.Good luck!
