| Answer: | Erik, The Plymouth Laster RS has a 2.0 litre, Dual Over-Head Cam engine. It is known as an "interference" engine. It requires very precise timing, and if that timing is off there will be problems. If you timing is off or your timing belt broke, your pistons will bang into the valves. This is probably the noise you are hearing. Those pistons hit the valves very hard and will eventually destroy them. If you want to repair this, be prepared to pay a lot of money. You will want a very experienced mechanic. Your engine will probably need to be rebuilt. Estimated price to repair, about $2000. You might consider buying another user Laser, Talon, or Eclipse and use your current Laser for spare parts. Sorry to bring such bad news, but my analysis should be correct |
