Subject: ignition stuck
Question: PLymouth Colt Vista by Mitsubishi
My ignition will not budge--it the whole thing is locked up. Is there some easy way to fix without replacement or will it need to go to a shop? Can I at least do something to unlock the steering whell?
Thanks,
Kelli
Answer: Kelli,
This is a common problem if your key has slowly worn down over the years. One of the security features car companies have used over the years is that your steering wheel will lock until you are able to turn the key. There really is nothing your can do to unlock the steering wheel.

One of the cheapest, easiest, fixes I can suggest is to write down your VIN and go to your local Chrysler (or Dodge or Plymouth) dealership and tell them you want a new master key cut for your car. They will need at least your VIN in order to cut a new key for your car. If a new key will not successfully turn your ignition, then you will want to have your car brought to a shop, and you may need your key ignition replaced. Fortunately, that is not too expensive.
Good luck!
