| Subject: | Mitsubishi 2.6 liter engine |
| Question: |
This might be out of your area:: I need to replace the Mitsubishi
2.6 liter motor in my '89 Dodge Ram 50 truck ( a re-named mitsu vehicle);
I have a line on a rebuilt Mitsu 2.6 liter from a '88 Dodge Caravan auto
trans; guy says it will fit perfecly in the truck , no problem; is this
likely? |
| Answer: | Jim, I believe the '89 Dodge Ram 50 had the 2.6L engine, and the '88 Dodge Caravan had a 2.5L engine. So, I'm not sure how well they'd actually match up. But I know very little about engine swaps in older Dodges; much less when going from a minivan to a truck. The turbo engine used in the Starion was a 2.6L, but unfortunately I
don't know any information about being able to use that as a swapped engine
for your truck. My advise for any one considering an engine swap is to
match the exact vehicle. I'm sure there are other years of Dodge trucks
that used the same engine. Matching the same vehicle engine is also benefical
because you can be sure the transmission will line up and that all the
electrical harnesses will reach and fit properly. |
