| Question: | My 1992 Diamonte LS
is smoking, burning oil. I know the vavle stem seals are shot. But
recently...I have an intermittent problem. Car shuts off and won't
start unless you let it sit for 15 minutes. The RPM guage flutters, I hear a "clicking" noise in the passenger floor board, and the car shuts off. Won't start unless you let it sit for a while. I', thinking ECM (electronic control module). Last year it failed pollution control, so I put a new converter on it and 3 months ago I put a new O2 sensor on it. What do you think is causeing the shutt off, the clicking in the passenger floor board?(RPM meter flutters just before it shuts off)??? (BRIAN) |
| Answer: | Brian, It is very possible to assume the ECM may be faulty. Read the following article for further information: http://90gsx.com/eclipse/cap/caps.htm Your year of Diamante falls right in line where the faulty capacitors
were installed on the ECMs from the factory. Plus, the clicking you mentioned
is a sure sign of a faulty ECM. The clicking you are hearing is the ECM
resetting itself over and over. You will get all sorts of intermittent
problems with a malfunctioning ECM. |
