Subject: Mitsubishi Diamante Alternator
Question: Not sure if you have worked with Diamante before, but how in the hell do I remove the alternator once I got of its bracket. I tred thru the top and the left wheel by removing the wheel and working behind the brake and struts. The slide thru. PLease HELP
Answer: Alex,
I don't know what year of Diamante you have, so I don't know exactly where your alternator is. Mitsubishi has changed its location between a few different years of their Diamantes. What I do know about the Diamante alternators (along with every other model of Mitsubishi) is that they are VERY difficult to remove. I have remove an alternator from an Eclispe and Galant, and neither one went smoothly. I've even talked with professional mechanics and they hate replacing the alternators on those cars. Diamantes can be especially difficult to work with. The way you are trying to get the alternator sounds like the easiest tempt to remove it. From the factory service manuals for other Mitsubishi cars, they insist you remove the wheel, strut, wheel hub, power steering pump (on some models), the radiator and fan, and even the entire bumper in some cases. So, unfortunately I have no easy tips for you. And from what i heard from others, there is no "easy" way to remove the alternator. You just have to be persistant and take your time.
Good luck!
