| Question: | My vehicle battery went dead so I replaced it. I cleaned the terminals and it still will no start. It turns over but will not start. Before this happened at every red light I would have to keep my foot on the gas to keep the motor from dying. When cranking it over you an smell that it is getting gas but will not start. I was thinking fuel filter or pump. What do you think.? |
| Answer: | Justin, You may indeed need to have your fuel filter replaced and your pump inspected to check for correct pressure. There are some small maintanence items that you can have done; basic tune up items. Replace spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, and PCV valve. All that should be done even if your car did start up. Its good preventative maintenance. But your problem could be something bigger. I would have your alternator checked. I will guess that the reason your battery went dead in the first place was because your alternator was draining it beyond its ability to be recharged again. If the alternator has never been replaced on that car, you're pretty lucky it lasted this long. Most Mitsubishi alternators only last around 7 years. Mine almost lasted 13 years, but I was pushing it. If you do need to have your alternator replaced, have your belts checked and replaced at the same time if necessary. Good luck! |
