Question: HI, I have a 92 Mitsubishi Diamante with roughly 100,000 miles on it. my problem is that it makes a rough idling sound at 1500rpms and when backing up from my driving that is a steep the idle needle will jump and sometimes the car will shut off.But most of the time it will start right back up,but there was one case that it took a long time to start back up.Do you know what is causing these problems?
Answer: Craig,
As I understand it from your description, your engine idles rough around 1500 rpms. And, that when you back out of your driveway, you have to go up a steep hill. All of a sudden, you engine will idle quickly, then sometimes will shut off. Am I right so far? Your question was a little choppy.

Anyway, I think I may have a couple suggestion as to the cause of your problem. First, you should have your PCV valve changed. It is a very cheap and quick, regular maintenance item. It should be replaced every other oil change; or at least once a year.
You should also replace your fuel filter. It may be clogged and when you car is at an angle going up that steep hill, it may not be letting enough fuel to get to your engine. You should also have your fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator checked. If your fuel pressure is dropping, you'll definately get a stalling engine. If you live in a cold area or get a lot of precipitation, you should go to your local auto store and buy a bottle of water remover for your fuel system.
Good luck!
