Subject: Diamante brakes
Question: 99 diamante I replaced the brake pads and had rotors turned due to wheel shimmy while braking. After a couple of months shimmy is back when braking. I intend to replace with new rotors and pads. Is there another issue that could be causing the rotors to warp? Bearings? My guess is that rotor has a hard spot and turning it was a temporary fix. Car drives straight and true with no shimmy except when braking. Thanks Randy
Answer: Randy,
Your guess is probably right. Turning rotors is usually just a temporary fix. Replacing with new rotors should fix your problem. It is possible you have a worn bearing. Have your CV boots checked. If they are torn or leaking grease, have them replaced.
Have your calipers checked thoroughly when your rotors are replaced. If they are sticking, they won't release fully after your breaks are applied. That will make your pads and rotors wear prematurely.
Good luck!
