| Question: | I DROVE MY CAR FOR LESS THAN 5 MIN. WHEN IT OVERHEATED.I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATLEY AND STEAM WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I LET IT COOL OFF FOR A HOUR AND OPENED THE RADIATOR,WHERE THE RADIATOR FLUIDS SPLATTERED ALL OVER THE CAR.I REPLENISHED FLUIDS AND WENT TO START THE ENGINE TO CHECK TEMP, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. WHAT COULD BE THE POSSIBLE REASON ? PLEASE HELP, I KNOW IT'S NOT AN ECLIPSE, BUT YOU MAY HAVE AN IDEA WHAT HAPPENED.I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR ! |
| Answer: | Vivian, There are a few common things that can make your car overheat. One is that you are low on coolent or have an incorrect mixture. Another is that your thermostat is stuck closed. It is possible you are low or even out of engine oil. An engine that overheats can cause other problems. A major problem could be that you blew your head gasket. If that blows, you loose compression to your engine. If your compression is down, your engine will have a hard time starting. If your engine did overheat because of lack of oil, you may have seized your engine. That's definately the worst case scenerio, but it should be looked into. Check your oil level to make sure you have enough. I would recommend having your local mechanic garage check out your car
for poor compression. They will probably find your problem. |
