Subject: electric window repair
Question:

I just bought a 1992 Mits. Diamante with 3l V auto trans.
Only the drivers front window works. I have replaced the passanger front window motor, removed the door panel circuit boards and cleaned them and checked for power at the window motor, but still no go.

The light in the window lock out button on the driver door control panel stays on. I suspect that the window lock is stuck on enabled.

Is there a way to disable it?

My next approach is to ge a replacement drivers side control panel with one from a salvage yard.
All othe electrical systems in the car seem fine. Door locks are working.

The car runs and drives great, but I really need the windows to work.

What do you think is the problem?
How can I fix it?

Thanks,

Mike

Answer: Mike,
If you have a voltmeter, you can test the window lock circuit on the drivers side and look for a connector on the circuit board to disconnect and disable the window lock.

But your approach to replace the drivers side switch assembly is probably the right one. Finding a used one is a good idea since a new one from the dealership can cost between $350-$440. If you cannot find one at the salvage yards, you can also check eBay. Many people part out their old cars and there's a good chance you'll find a switch.
Good luck!
