Subject: timing belt on a mitsubishi spacewagon 1996
Question: I recently changed the waterpump, I refitted the timing belt and aligned the cam and cranshaft marks, the engine is running nicely except for a deep vibration on revving the engine, I notice another cog to the right with marks on it but none on the engine itself, the timing belt also goes around this cog ( what is this and how do I adjust it, may it be an auxillary shaft?) I have not touched the balancer belt as the marks are aligning up correctly, I am unable to obtain a work shop manual but can only import one from japan. HELP PLEASE!
Answer: Steven,
You're one of the few people that has totally stumped me. I've only seen a Space Wagon once, much less worked on one. Those vehicles aren't typically sold in the US (just Europe and Asia from what I know), so I'm not familiar with its engine at all. I'm not even sure the model of engine Mitsu put in that car.
You mentioned that your balancer belt has not been touched, so I can't say for sure if it has anything to do with your balance shaft. Since I'm not familar with what this is, I'd be at a lose as to how to adjust it. From the Mitsu dealerships I've visited in my area, those mechanics aren't too familiar with Space Wagons either.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, and good luck!
