| Subject: | Identifying noise and how to disable non-working harness seat belt. |
| Question: | Hello again, Sorry to bother you, but I again need your help. There is a rapid clicking noise under the dash on the right hand side of my van when I try to start it sometimes. Can you tell me what this is? I also need to know if there is a fuse that can be pulled in order to disable my non-working harness seat belts. They became inoperable about a year ago, and while they don't work, there appears to be a "motor" (?) running somewhere that keeps trying to run the belt on the track. Thank you for your help. |
| Answer: | Louise, If I recall, you have the 1992 Expo van. I was guessing that your question about locating your ECU (car's computer; sometimes called ECC or ECM) was because you wanted to replace it. If you haven't replaced, you may need to. View this article for some information about your ECU: http://90gsx.com/eclipse/cap/caps.htm That clicking noise may be due to your ECU resetting itself
because it is malfunctioning. That will cause your passive
restraint seatbelts to also not work. Over time, a faulty
ECU will cause many more strange and intermittent problems.
Have your ECU inspected by a qualified technician; possibly
your local Mitsubishi mechanic. Odds are, you may need to
repalce it. I believe the fuse for the motor that controls
your seats is near the left knee on the drivers side. Though
since I believe your ECU is cauing this problem, I don't
think replacing that fuse will help. |
