| Subject: | Transmission, Overdrive |
| Question: | I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Expo with 135K miles. We love the car and don't really want to get rid of it. However, the overdrive has ceased to function, but the regular transmission works fine. Is there a simple fix to the problem, e.g., a replaceable solenoid, etc.? OR Is the problem one that can only be solved by a complete transmission rebuild or overhaul? Many thanks for your advice. |
| Answer: | Don, Your problem may be as simple as a stuck solenoid, but you'll want to have mechanic check it out for you. I doubt your fix would require something as major as a rebuild, but you'll want to have tranmission specialist check it out. Have the car's tranny looked over by a mechanic at a transmission shop. Your average, local garage may not have enough experience with transmissions to give a decent diagnosis. Good luck! |
