| Question: | my sons montero i believe
90 had starter replaced problems after a week thought engine locked but mechanic able to take off starter and start up put back starter but had ugly noise at startup but no other problems today no noise just whirring noise but suv wont start up--what happened never had answer to original problem is this from that also |
| Answer: | Mary, The starter has a very simple function, and is only in use when the car is being started. The noise may be happeneing because the "new" starter they installed was not good. The starter is such a simple device, that most "new" starters are just rebuilt starters. They are not brand new, just rebuilt. Usually a rebuilt starter is just as good as if it was brand new. But it is possible that the new starter they put in your Montero could have been bad. Another possibility is that the flywheel was damaged when the new
starter was installed, or when the old starter was removed. I would
recommend taking the car back to the mechanic, and ask to have the
starter and the flywheel inspected. But my guess is that there is
still a problem with the starter. |
