| Subject: | screeching under the hood, power door lock on drivers side won't work |
| Question: | Just bought a 97' mit.
eclipse rs ltd. 2.0 4cyl. manual trans. It has started an annoying
screech or squeal under the hood. A friend said it was the belt & sprayed
it with belt dressing. It did stop for a minute, but started back.
Also have a problem with the power door lock not working properly with
the keychain fob or with the door button on the drivers side only.
Can you help me out with these problems? Thanks, Gina |
| Answer: | Gina, Your screeching problem is caused by a belt slipping. Usually its the power steering belt that slips. It either just needs to be tightened or replaced. If it's the original belt, it should be replaced. It would probably be a good idea to have all the drive belts replaced. Getting all of them done at the same time will save money in the long run. Your nonfunctional door lock may be caused by a faulty relay or
sticky lock mechanism. I believe the door lock relay on your car
is located under the steering wheel. Before you replace that, you
may want to have the lock mechanism cleaned and re-lubricated. In
order to re-lubricate it, you need to remove the door panel. Not
a tough job, but if you're unconfortable doing it, find someone to
help. That may fix your problem. |
