Subject: Power Steering Pump, 1991 Eclipse
Question: Is the Power Steering Pump Pulley "Pressed On"?
Are there special requirements to the new install of a new pump aside from installing, filling and going? I would purchase a manual but this is a one time only assist, Thank You.
Answer: Scott,
Yes, the pulley is "pressed on". There are several gaskets and vital oil seals that go around the pulley once in the oil pump body, so if you are rebuilding your old pump, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the oil pump seal kit and cartridge kit from a dealership. I just rebuilt the pump on my 90 Eclipse a couple weeks ago because it was leaking fluid. The new gaskets and seals fixed my problem nicely.

But once your pump is fully assembled, just install it, fill it, and go. Just be sure that the belt tension is tight enough so it won't slip. Also, a word of caution, do not let any oil get on the alternator. It's located right below your ps pump. If enough oil gets to the alternator, it will fry it out and you'll have another job to do.
Good luck!
