| Question: | 94 Mitsubishi 3000
gt 3.0 L After talking with my mechanic. He believes now that I have a voltage problem. My car will die if you stop to quickly and will rev up if accelerated too much, instead of taking off it redlines. |
| Answer: | If it is a voltage problem,
you may have a faulty voltage regulator. It may even be your alternator,
but I kind of doubt that. If your mechanic is checking this correctly,
he should have already checked the voltage across the battery, alternator,
voltage regulator, starter, etc... I hope he's not just guessing.
I can only guess at this point, because I don't have your car in
front of me to check the voltages. It's possible your mechanic merely
knocked something loose when replacing your water pump or when setting
the timing.
If nothing helps at all, you should have your ECU checked as I
mentioned in my first reply. Unlike many cars, your 3000GT does
not have a distributor or a rotor. All firing of the spark plugs
is controlled by your car's computer (ECU). If your ECU is malfunctioning,
you will definately experience these strange problems. You may
be able to check it just by looking at it. You will know if your
capacitors have leaked. It's pretty obvious just by looking at
the circuit board. Your mechanic doesn't need a degree in electrical
engineering for that. |
