Subject: 3000 gt not firing on all cylinders
Question: Im located in a small town with small town mechanics. I recently had a water pump installed and had the timing set. I am now told that my car is only firing on four cylinders in stead of six. The computer they used came up with nothing. Right now they believe it has something to do with the ignition. I have a 1994 3000 GT LS 3.0L
Please Help

Answer: Jeremy,
Small towns and Japanese cars usually don't mix well when it comes to repairs. If you had an ignition problem, your computer should throw out some trouble codes. There should a code for at least the ignition coil and ignition power transistor unit for your car. Those parts can be pricey and are definately not easy to replace. You may just need to replace your spark plugs and plug wires. That's a lot easier and cheaper than going after the ignition system. If you have a Mitsubishi dealership within reasonable driving distance, you may want want to have them try to pull any trouble codes from your computer. Even an AutoZone parts store will do code reads for free. They may be more accurate.

A problem which is very hard to diagnose is when you car's computer is failing. Read this article for further information:

A Mitsubishi dealership may be able to diagnose that problem better.
Good luck!
