Question: When I start the car when the engine is cold it over revs (rpm range 2000-2300). After warm up it settles down ok to around 800rpm and runs fine after that.
Could you suggest some possible problem areas.
Answer: Michael,
This is normal for a cold engine. All cars I've ever driven in the winter will do this. Its more common with manual transmissions, but will occur with automatic trannies as well. As long as it settles between 700-800 rpms after it reaches normal operating temperatures, you're fine. Be sure to use a 5W-30 engine oil if you live in a wintery area, then switch to 10W-30 in the warmer months.
