It sounds like your battery is dying. Though your car is only a year old or so old, that battery may be about to go. That battery will still be under warranty, and if you bought the car from a dealership, take it back and have them load test the battery.

Your battery light comes on because it has a low charge. When you start driving for a few minutes, the alternator charges up your battery enough for the light to turn off.
